The Plight of the Mailbox

A really good friend of mine came up north to visit me during the spring not too long ago.
We decided to go for a walk and ended up having a good laugh
at the sad status of the mailboxes in Michaywe.
Ah....the hazards of living Up N!
Snow plows will in fact eat your mailbox.
So, here you go. Enjoy!

There's a reason this guy
A) still has a mailbox and B) built this guard.....

This one's my personal favorite.
Only because I came home one year and my dad had done the exact same thing.
His argument was that "It was still a perfectly good mailbox,
so why should I go and buy another one?"

Red Letter Christians

I had the privilege of taking several courses with Tony Campolo at Eastern. I never tire of hearing him speak with passion for social justice.

Tradition!

It is true,
"Without tradition our lives would be as shaky as a fiddler on the roof".

The Fiddler on the Roof farewell tour to Chaim Topol was last night at the Detroit Opera House.

Here's to Topol!
Truly he makes the musical what it is.
We cried and laughed with the poignant emotional character of Tevye.

"Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears."

Deep Freeze

I caught a new glimpse of beauty up north when it rained, snowed and then the temperatures have stayed in the zero degree range.
Every branch is coated with a thin layer of ice in this picture so that the woods were sparkling. The snow was hard and had turned to ice and everything was glittering.

Eastern University

Eastern University
was a foundational part of building my faith,
for developing my passion for teaching in the inner city,
and being part of lifelong missional work.

The Motto: The Whole Gospel for the Whole World
Their Values: Faith, Justice and Reason

It is a place that is passionate about bringing social justice and ending poverty and
I am a better person for having gotten an education there.

It was such a treat for me to visit there a week ago.
So much has changed, and yet the vision remains the same.
Clearly, God is in control of my life and has lead me to some amazing places.
